The sad truth about what really happened to Cookie Monster
I have suspected for some time that today's 'cookies are a sometime food' Cookie Monster is an imposter. After all, Cookie Monster's defining characteristics were that he had an insatiable appetite for cookies and that when he 'nom, nom, nommed' a cookie, crumbs flew everywhere.
However, I have now discovered the sad truth about what happened to the real Cookie Monster.
They turned him a kid's jacket.
As you can see from the above photo, the warm winter coat and matching pants are clearly lines and trimmed with Cookie Monster fur.
This is becoming a sadly increasing trend in children's clothing. Sometimes manufacturers even go to the extreme of leaving the muppet ears on the fur clothing to increase the 'cuteness' factor.
Yes, muppet fur is warm and soft, and yes it does look cute. As parents, we want our children to be warm and snug, and we like dressing them up in cute clothes, but at what cost?
Walk into any playgroup and you'll see dozens of little kids running around in their muppet clothing and it seems harmless enough. However, the reality is that the muppet fur clothing industry has nearly brought muppets to extinction. When was the last time you saw recent footage of a muppet on your TV screen?
The devastating consequnces of these cute clothes is covered up and sadly animal rights groups such as PETA have done little to bring attention to this issue, claiming that muppets aren't really animals. Personally, I think we need a poster campaign of nude celebrities posing with the slogan 'I'd rather go naked than wear muppet'.
Next time you see a cute brown fuzzy jacket with ears on the hood, ask yourself was it really worth the life of an innocent ewok?
